Anna Maria Luisa de’ Medici was the last of her family. In 1737, she signed the Family Pact, binding the Medici art collections to the city of Florence in perpetuity and forbidding their sale or removal — the decision that kept those collections in the Uffizi and the Pitti Palace rather than scattered to private buyers. A second novel, still early in the works, follows her story.
